Inditex, the parent company of Zara, is constructing a cutting-edge distribution center in the Lelystad Airport business park. Covering 35 hectares, this facility is set to become one of the largest in the Netherlands. HSE Involvement
We played a pivotal role in ensuring health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards were integrated throughout the project lifecycle. From the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) stage through construction, commissioning, and operational handover, our comprehensive services included:
HSE Planning and Procedures:
- Development of detailed HSE management systems tailored to the construction, commissioning, and operational phases.
- Conducted regular reviews of risk assessments and method statements to address evolving project requirements.
- Facilitated alignment with LEED Gold certification criteria through proactive environmental compliance monitoring.
In-House Training:
- Delivered workshops on essential safety practices, including hazard identification and emergency preparedness.
- Conducted training sessions for heavy equipment handling, emphasizing safe forklift and pallet mover operations.
- Organized scenario-based drills for fire and medical emergencies to improve real-time response capabilities.
Construction and Operations Supervision:
- On-site HSE coordination, supervision of high-risk activities, including lifting operations, simultaneous activities (SIMOPS), and hot works, ensuring strict adherence to permit-to-work systems.
- Implemented warehouse traffic management protocols to prevent collisions and ensure smooth vehicle and pedestrian flow.
- Conducted routine safety audits to identify hazards and enforce corrective actions promptly.
- Collaborated with the local fire department to implement comprehensive fire prevention and guarding measures.
Emergency Readiness:
- Set up a fully equipped medical response unit, including AEDs and first aid kits, and ensured its 24/7 readiness.
- Developed emergency response protocols in partnership with local fire departments for implementation of fire prevention strategies and rapid incident mitigation.
- Designed evacuation plans tailored to the site layout and trained personnel on their execution during emergencies.
- Maintained readiness to respond to emergencies related to logistic and heavy vehicle traffic management activities.
Security and Access Control:
- Coordinated the installation and monitoring of advanced CCTV systems to enhance site surveillance.
- Managed access and egress controls to prevent unauthorized entry and ensure workforce accountability.
- Supported the security team with incident reporting systems to track and address security-related events.
Employee Health and Well-Being:
- Developed comprehensive sickness and absenteeism protocols, integrating wellness programs to promote a healthy workforce.
- Provided HR support by creating onboarding procedures that included safety orientations and job-specific HSE guidelines.
- Established ergonomic practices for warehouse workers to minimize physical strain and increase productivity.
